Honoring the Directions: The North
Acrylic on canvas, 12"x36"
This is the direction of winter's deepest wisdom.
Under the luminous full moon, a snowy white owl keeps silent watch in the night sky, its wisdom as ancient as the stars themselves. This ethereal guardian of the North shares the celestial realm with swirling patterns of turquoise and deep blue, like aurora borealis dancing across the winter night.
Below, where earth meets spirit, the Wolf stands, howling to the moon while mysterious white forms rise like mist from the sacred ground. These are the ancestors, their presence flowing between worlds.
White cowrie shells rest upon the earth - sacred messengers that speak of destiny and ancestral wisdom. These shells, traditionally used to divine messages from the spirit world, rest like small temples in the snow, their openings creating doorways through which ancestral voices may whisper their timeless teachings.
The snowy owl above and the Wolf below stand as dual guardians of this realm where the physical and spirit worlds meet. Between them flows the energy of winter - of snow and rain, of clarity born from stillness, of wisdom emerging from darkness.
This is the North in its full power - where winter teaches us to pause, deeply reflect and listen.
